MAERSK AND MAWANI OPEN MIDDLE EAST'S LARGEST LOGISTICS PARK

A.P. Moller – Maersk (Maersk) and Saudi Arabia's General Ports Authority, ‘Mawani,’ announced the launch of Maersk’s largest Logistics Park in the Middle East at Jeddah Islamic Port.

The 225,000-square-meter facility, backed by a US$250 million investment, stands as the largest single-site Logistics & Services hub in the Middle East.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Engineer Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and Chairman of the General Ports Authority, along with other notable figures such as Omar bin Talal Hariri, Chairman of the Authority; Vincent Clerc, CEO of A.P. Moller – Maersk; Richard Morgan, Managing Director of Maersk Indian Subcontinent, Middle East and Africa; Mohammad Shihab, Managing Director of Maersk Saudi Arabia; Ahmed Kudous, Head of Supply Chain Personal Care Middle East and Turkey, and Head of Customer Operations GCC at Unilever, as well as senior officials.

Omar Hariri, the President of the General Authority of Ports, emphasized the significance of the new Logistics Park in bolstering the growth of the logistics sector and contributing to economic and developmental activities by providing comprehensive logistical solutions.

Spanning 225,000 square meters, the Maersk Logistics Park offers integrated logistics services under one roof, featuring:

  • Multi-modal connectivity across ocean, land, and air transport
  • Warehousing solutions designed for both B2B and e-commerce needs
  • Temperature-controlled storage
  • A custom-bonded setup
  • Facilities tailored for diverse industries, including FMCG, frozen food, automotive, retail, lifestyle, petrochemicals, electronics, pharmaceuticals, and more
  • Distribution services encompassing first- and last-mile deliveries
  • Customs clearances, visibility solutions, and a control tower

As part of its commitment to decarbonization and achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040, Maersk has equipped the facility with 32,000 solar panels across 64,000 square meters of rooftop space, expected to supply up to 70% of the park's electricity needs. Additionally, the park employs electric equipment and trucks, energy-efficient LED lighting with light sensors, and other sustainable practices.

Maersk has also launched an in-house women’s academy at the facility, offering tailored training programs to promote diversity and inclusion. This academy aims to empower Saudi women in the logistics and supply chain sector through specialized training, career development, mentorship, and a supportive environment.

Furthermore, safety is a top priority at the Maersk Logistics Park, which has been constructed with a ‘Safety by Design’ approach. The facility features state-of-the-art firefighting systems, separate pathways for pedestrians and equipment, and extensive surveillance systems to ensure the safety of both people and cargo.

In addition, the park is strategically located at Jeddah Islamic Port, which is equipped with advanced infrastructure, berths that can accommodate the latest generation of large ships, and modern, automated, eco-friendly equipment, all of which enhance the port's operational efficiency, competitiveness, and capacity.
